Esther

Esther’s journey exemplifies determination, hard work, and the power of a supportive community. Born in Haiti and raised in Florida City, she began her academic path at Florida City Elementary, continued through Homestead Middle, and graduated from Coral Reef Senior High in 2025. Her connection with Branches started the summer before middle school and became a defining source of guidance and encouragement.
At Homestead Middle, Esther balanced academics with volleyball and flag football. After practice, she went to Branches for homework help and activities. Though she once struggled with math, Branches’ support built her confidence, especially during the challenges of remote learning.
Described as hardworking and ambitious, Esther served as a Grow Guide at Branches in her senior year, tutoring younger students and giving back to the community that had invested in her. Her resilience led her to apply for the prestigious Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA) program, where she spent five weeks at Princeton and Yale preparing for college.
On December 17, 2024, while on a Branches field trip, Esther learned she was accepted to Yale University. The moment, shared with her Branches family, was a joyful celebration of her years of dedication. She began at Yale in August 2025.
Branches has celebrated Esther’s Haitian heritage, helping her feel proud and valued. Mentors like Branches alumna Danielle Neil and Senior Coach Judith Neil provided guidance, encouragement, and even helped Esther move into her dorm at Yale.
Esther’s story is one of resilience, ambition, and the profound impact of community. Her acceptance to Yale is both a testament to her hard work and the unwavering support she received at Branches.
