Anner

Anner first came to Branches in 2022 as a Kindergartener who did not speak English, could not recognize letters, and could not write his own name. School felt overwhelming, and attendance was inconsistent.

The Branches team worked closely with Anner and his family to build trust and emphasize the importance of daily attendance and education. Through consistent one-on-one support and extra time dedicated to his learning, Anner began making progress. He learned to write his name, recognize sight words, and discovered a strength in math, where he quickly grasped addition and subtraction.

In third grade, despite the progress he had made, Anner did not receive the test score needed for promotion. The news was devastating, and Anner was crushed.

The Branches team felt it deeply as well. But at Branches, perseverance is part of who we are. Staff continued meeting with Anner regularly, adjusting strategies, encouraging him, and reminding him that repeating the grade would help him grow even stronger as a student.

That perseverance paid off. During the second nine weeks, Anner earned Honor Roll for the first time, a milestone that strengthened his confidence and belief in his ability to succeed. Now 10, Anner continues his journey at Branches. His story is a powerful reminder that lasting change takes time, consistent support, and people who refuse to give up on a child’s potential.
