Generation Miami selects Branches as their Non-Profit Partner
Leadership Miami® is an annual program of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and offers participants the opportunity to meet Miami’s leaders. The program focuses on community issues and leadership development, and a primary component of the program is a community service project which has a long-lasting impact.
Team Generation Miami of the 2013-2014 Leadership Miami® program selected Branches as their non-profit partner for their class project. This team has simply transformed Branches Lakeview in many ways, from revitalizing our playground space for the Grow children’s program to renovating the Sanctuary and turning it into a large multi-use space. Generation Miami led and participated in several work day projects, from MLK Day’s of Service to painting the Fellowship Hall in time for the Miami HEAT’s Learn and Play Center unveiling. The team also spent time with and tutored our kids, even donating basketball hoops and balls so the children and youth can enjoy them, only after homework has been completed of course!
Generation Miami’s premiere project included the renovation of the Sanctuary which included the removing and selling of the old pews, installing new floors, purchasing new tables and chairs, painting and updating all electrical and lighting. This new space will now allow Branches to hold much larger events and trainings indoor, as well as provide space for the children to hold activities inside, and play indoors when it is raining. Branches Lakeview now also has the space to launch its Climb youth program at this site in the Fall since now the much needed space is available.
On Saturday, April 12th, 2014 Generation Miami also held the Branches Family Festival for Financial Freedom which included dozens of vendors who provided free resources, including Branches’ free tax prep, financial coaching from the United Way Center for Financial Stability, food from Pollo Tropical and Burger King, tips and piggy banks from Regions Bank, fun activities led by the Miami Dolphins, Miami Marlins and Miami-Dade Parks and Rec, and much more! Generation Miami even presented one of Branches Lakeview’s families with a $1,000 Family Support fund gift, and one of Branches Florida City’s high school seniors with a $2,500 College Support fund gift.
